The unofficial memorial on the side of the freeway on-ramp. Flowers, posters, candles, pictures and people paying tribute to loved ones lost and a way of life changed. A poster by a little girl who's daddy worked in the pentagon said simply at the end, "Remember September."

As we were standing there dwarfed by this larger-than-life statue, we couldn't help but overhear the older man next to us swearing saying, "shoulda kill all them damn japs when we had the chance insteada lettin some run free..."
