I removed the negative terminal of my battery to open the circuit, so that I could attach the amp's power line to the positive terminal without fear of shocking myself. I put a rag under the terminal so it wouldn't be tempted to reconnect.

This hole exists in the firewall above the clutch pedal. I removed the rubber gromit that fills the hole and cut a slice in it to allow for the power cable to come through.

If I did this project again, I would have fed the wire through the hole before connecting it to the battery. It's much easier to fish a wire out of the engine compartment from above, then from the behind the pedals through a tiny hole. It took 15 minutes and a coat hanger to finally pull it through.
